Agile™ - Installing a Replacement Electronic Lock with 12 digit Keypad

How to Install a Replacement Lock on the Agile™ Model 40/52 Rev. B (Square Keypad)

Overview: This Guide will explain how to replace the swing-bolt lock in the Agile™ line of safes. Note: this guide can be used on either the Model 40 or 52.

Tools Needed: The following tools are required to complete this task (not included):

  •   Phillips-Head Screwdriver (recommend using hand tools rather than drill to avoid stripping screws)
  •   Needle-nose pliers (optional)

Step 1:  Remove the Panel on the Main Door, including door organizer (if applicable)

a.      Open the safe and identify the 8 screws on the main door (The model 40 only has 6 screws).

b.      Unscrew all screws and set aside in a safe place with door organizer.

Note: Screws are holding the back-door panel in place; we recommend taking off the very top-middle screw last to keep from dropping the heavy door panel

c.      Be sure to unplug the red wire from the battery compartment so it does not rip out!

Step 2:  Lock The Door

With the door OPEN and the cover removed, verify that the lock is in the “closed” position; the bolts should be all the way OUT.

Step 3:  Unplug the Cables

a. Carefully remove the 4-wire keypad cable and 2-wire reset cable by clasping the small clip on the back side and pulling straight out. (if not able to grip, use needle-nose pliers) DO NOT break prongs or cut wire.

Note: Do not pull on wire or try to move it until the keypad is removed (see step 6)

Step 4:  Remove the Old Lock

a. Locate and remove the four main screws on the lock that are bolting it to the safe.

b.     Remove the lock, leaving the wires to dangle in place.

Step 5:  Install the New Lock

a.      The flat side of the bolt should be facing to the upwards (as shown) and it should line up with the rectangular bracket

b.      Reattach the four main screws to bolt the lock to the safe wall.

Note: Be sure the wires are not pinned behind the lock so they don't get damaged.

Step 6:  Replace the Keypad (skip if only replacing the lock)

a.      If you are also replacing the keypad, you will need to remove the four small screws that are holding it in place

Note: Be sure to catch the screws and store in a safe place. It is recommended that you put pressure on the outside of the keypad so it doesn't fall out.

b.      Once removed, feed the wires from the new keypad through the hole, then reattach the four screws.

Note: Small screws are self-seating. Be sure not to strip or over-tighten as it can break the housing unit on the keypad.

Step 7: Replace Battery Pack and Reset Cable

a.      If required, replace the battery pack by removing the four small screws and using them to attach the replacement.

b.      If required, replace the reset button. Do so by removing the retaining ring, taking out the old button and feeding the new button in. Then secure into place with the retaining ring.

Note: Be careful not to bend or twist the end of the cable so it does not tear the cable inside the sheathing.

Step 8:  Plug in the Cables, Reinstall the Door Panel and Test

a.      Once fully installed, plug the 4-wire (Keypad) cable and 2-wire (Reset Button) cables back into the lock in their respective ports.

b.      Hold the door panel in place and plug the red cable (Power) back into the battery pack

c.      Reinstall the door panel using the screws you set aside in step 1b

Note: Be sure to put the door organizer back on before screwing the door into place (if applicable)

d.      Ensure you are using a new battery and test the lock.

Note: ALWAYS test the lock with the door OPEN to make sure the safe is not locked closed and NEVER place the lock keys inside of the safe.

-   If the lock tests well and is working as designed – you now have a fully functional safe; congratulations!
