Answer Biometric Electronic Lock (6 Digit Keypad) – Basic Troubleshooting Guide

Answer Electronic Lock Not Opening-  In most cases, the issue is caused by the battery.

  1. Enter your code and look at the left LED light on the bottom right of the keypad. If the LED lights up red, then the battery is too weak to disengage the lock. Use the override key or use a USB-C power code to power the keypad through the port on the bottom right side of the keypad to open the door, and then install a brand new, brand name, alkaline 9V battery.

NOTE: Be sure to use a brand new, brand name, alkaline battery, instead of an off-brand or lithium battery. Off-brand and old batteries do not always put off the full 9 volts or the correct amperage. Lithium batteries can produce excess voltage, which can damage the lock.

  1. Try entering your code with the door open but with the handle in the locked position. If the lock works with the door open, then something inside is putting pressure on the door and locking rods when the door is closed. Check for obstructions and move your gear away from the door frame. This can occur when the Stock Bases are placed under the locking rod on the door, so you’ll want to push the Stock Bases back until they are roughly 1” from the back wall.

  1. If you hear three quick beeps when you enter your code, then the code is incorrect and there may have been an issue during programming. Change your codes using the instructions HERE.

Answer Door Will Not Lock or the HandleTurns Hard When Locking

  1. Open the right door 90 degrees and try to turn the handle to the locked position. If the handle turns and the lock engages, then something is blocking the lock rods when the doors are closed. Open the door and check for obstructions around the door frame.
    • StockBases should be set flat on the bottom of the cabinet, about 1” from the back wall.
    • Gear and gun slings should be kept away from the door, to prevent jamming.
    • If your gear hangs over the edge of a shelf or a bin, then make sure it is not pushing up against the door or the door frame.

  1. Grease is applied to the lock rods at the factory to ensure a smooth glide, however, this grease can create tension if there is too much build-up.
    1. Use your override key to disengage the lock, then use a rag or paper towel to wipe off the grease on ONLY the two lower locking bolts on the side of the right door (the two bolts that extend out at the side of the right door on the bottom). Turn the handle between the locked and unlocked positions, and repeat wiping the bolts 2-3 times.
    2. If the handle still turns hard, then wipe down all of the locking bolts and apply a small amount of white lithium grease to each bolt, moving the handle to distribute the grease. Only use white lithium grease from a squeeze tube. DO NOT USE spray on white lithium grease or any other oil/grease.

Fingerprint Scanner Does Not Open the LockThis issue is commonly caused by battery or programming issues.

  1. When you press your fingerprint against the scanner, check for the red low battery indicator LED on the keypad. If the LED lights up red, then the battery is too weak to disengage the lock. Use the override key or use a USB-C power code to power the keypad through the port on the bottom right side of the keypad to open the door, and then install a brand new, brand name (Energizer preferred), alkaline 9V battery.

  1. If you hear three quick beeps when you press your fingerprint against the scanner, then the lock does not recognize that fingerprint as a registered fingerprint. You can find the programming instructions HERE.

  1. If a previously registered fingerprint will no longer work, then we recommend performing a factory reset and reprogramming the access codes and fingerprints. You can find the programming instructions HERE.

The Battery Has Died and the Keys Are Lost

  1. Use a USB-C power cord (not included) and the USB-C power port on the bottom right of the keypad to power the keypad. Enter your access code or scan a registered fingerprint to disengage the lock and open the door. Install a brand new, brand-name (Energizer preferred), alkaline 9V battery.

NOTE: Be sure to use a brand new, brand name(Energizer preferred), alkaline battery, instead of an off-brand or lithium battery. Off-brand and old batteries do not always put off the full 9 volts or the correct amperage. Lithium batteries can produce excess voltage, which can damage the lock.
