Answer Cabinets - FAQ and Basic Troubleshooting Guide

The Handle turns Hard When Locking

1.  The manufacturer puts a lot of grease on the bolts when assembling to ensure a smooth glide, but they sometimes create tension if there is too much build-up. The bolts are all on rails, connected to a single pinwheel/bracket. If the lower two on the side of the door get clogged, it will prevent the rest from gliding smoothly.

-  Using a rag or paper towel wipe off the grease on only the two lower locking bolts on the side of the door (the ones at the very bottom on the side of the main door). You may have to do it 2-3 times, rotating the handle in and out, depending on the amount of grease built up.

Will Not Lock or Handle Turns Hard When Locking

The Swing-Bolt lock is spring-loaded and uses a sliding pin and cam to unlock and re-lock the bolt. If the handle is not turned all the way to the right, it will sometimes leave enough slack that the pin doesn't secure.

1.     The Answer comes unlocked. To activate the lock, you need to put in a  brand new (from the store), Duracell or Energizer alkaline battery (do not use lithium batteries as they will damage the lock). Off-brands (EverReady, Rayovac, Panasonic...) and older batteries do not always emit a full 9V. Then enter one of the default codes. The lock will now lock when the handle is closed.

2.  Check to make sure the path of the bolts inside the safe are not being blocked by the stock bases or another object (ammo can, box, etc.) as this will also prevent the lock from securing.

-  Try the lock with the door open but locked. If it works with the door open than it means something is putting pressure on the door and or locking rods. Check that the door is clear of any obstructions to includethe locking bolts and bins and shelves hitting items on the door organizer.

-  Gun slings should be kept away from the door to prevent them from interfering and jamming the door.

3.  Stock Bases should be set flat on the bottom of the cabinet about 1” from the back of the cabinet.  If it is up against the door and on the bottom lip of the door frame it will interfere with the bottom lock rod.

4.  Be sure that the inside door is closed and secured before closing the main door (Answer 12 only).

Hard to Unlock /Code Not Working

Bolt does not appear to be actuating or allowing the handle to turn; the battery has been installed/replaced but the code is not working.

NOTE: Do not close the door until the issue is corrected as you could be locked out.

1.   Make sure you are using a brand-new Duracell or Energizer 9V battery. If you need to install a battery or replace it, please review this quick guide: Replacing the Battery on Your SecuRam Keypad If your keypad is not actuating the bolt, please contact Support.

***Note: Be sure to use a name-brand Duracell or Energizer alkaline battery and DO NOT use Lithium/Ion batteries. Off brands do not always put out a full 9 volts and Lithium batteries will put off too much voltage and DAMAGE the lock.***

2.  Make sure there is nothing putting pressure on the door from the inside. Larger ammo cans or large bins are usually the culprit.

3.  Try resetting the code using the guide that comes with your Answer. (This would be a good place to link the manual or include a link to the factory reset video from SecuRam)

4. If the code is not saving or you are having issues, please watch the following videos from the manufacturer: SecuRam SafeLogic Troubleshooting
